Our History

 Zig's Bakery strives to provide a variety of delicious food made with fresh, local ingredients. Most importantly, nearly everything we offer starts from scratch, right here in our own kitchen.

Our story goes back further than you might think. Long before Zig's existed, our parent bakeshop, Minnich's Farm Bakery, was founded in 1970, baking out of a farmhouse on Green Acre Road in Lititz. Over the decades, the bakery changed hands, and eventually became Zig's, carrying that same tradition of scratch made baking forward into a new generation.

Some of our recipes, like our dinner rolls and Moravian Sugarcake, are more than 50 years old, passed down to us from that very first bakeshop. They've been made the same way for generations, and we don't plan on changing that anytime soon.

So what makes Zig's so special? Fresh ingredients, time honored recipes, and a whole lot of heart. But the best way to understand what makes us different is simply to hear our story.

 Minnich's Farm Bakery opened in 1970 at a farm house on Green Acre Road in Lititz. It was sold once in 1988 prior to our purchase of the bakery in July 2006 -- that's when owner Brandon Ziegler put his business degree and culinary skills into practice and started growing the business.  After a year of ownership, Brandon changed the name to Zig's Bakery and Deli.

When conditions at the old farm house became a concern over time, Brandon began the search for a new location.  In 2014 he partnered with his parents, owners of Country Home Catering, to renovate a barn on Newport Road -- and Brick Gables was born in April 2015, along with a new location for Zig's -- a dream come true for the Ziegler Family. (An added bonus: being able to take an historic but decaying Lititz property, and give it life again.)
